KIMBERLY OFFERS A UNIQUE APPROACH THAT SHE CALLS “DEPTH-FOCUSED COACHING,” WHICH UNCOVERS UNCONSCIOUS CONFLICTS +  BLOCKS THAT INTERFERE WITH GROWTH AND REAL CHANGE. IT IS AN INTELLIGENT FUSION OF CBT, COACHING TECHNIQUES, DEPTH PSYCHOLOGY AND MIND-BODY WISDOM. LET’S FACE IT, THERAPY IS NOT THE RIGHT OPTION FOR EVERYONE! HOLDING ONE ACCOUNTABLE WITH CONSEQUENCES WORKS FOR A TIME, BUT PEOPLE TEND TO RETURN TO FAMILIAR PATTERNS IF THEY HAVEN’T GAINED THE INSIGHT NEEDED TO IDENTIFY THE UNCONSCIOUS PROCESSES AT PLAY. PEOPLE ARE COMPLEX. THE DARKER SIDE OF HUMAN NATURE AS WELL AS THE NEED TO “REPEAT” FREQUENTLY SNEAKS UP TO SABOTAGE EVEN THE BEST PLANS. I OFFER A UNIQUE APPROACH THAT I CALL “DEPTH-FOCUSED COACHING” IT’S A PSYCHODYNAMIC APPROACH THAT UNCOVERS UNCONSCIOUS CONFLICTS AND OBSTACLES THAT INTERFERE WITH DESIGNING THE LIFE THAT YOU DESIRE, AS WELL AS REAL GROWTH AND CHANGE.

—Depth-Focused Coaching explained—

If you've tried coaching in the past but find that you return to the same patterns, there is a very good reason for that! You're not destined to fail, you just haven't dug deep enough to unearth the hidden dynamics at play--the underlying dynamics and patterns that sabotage your progress even after working with the best life coaches. Until you understand how your past has shaped how you are in the world today, you will unconsciously continue the same dynamics and habits even with the most effective coaching techniques.

Coaching clients are looking for change especially in areas of relationships, love, body, health, career, goal-attainment, career and life/work balance. They have dreams and goals to fulfill. We all have patterns, habits, thoughts, beliefs and dynamics that get repeated again and again.

So how do you make the change stick? Coaching fails, and quite frequently. It's not enough to give clients directives and hold them accountable, this works in the short-term, but rarely gets to the root of the problem. People have emotions, complex histories, ongoing inner dialogues, and frequently, they rebel and self-sabotage. The "inner saboteur" can be quite a force. We can come up with a plan to avoid chocolate chip ice cream, I can hold you accountable, with consequences, but without unearthing what's behind the urge or need, or problem behavioral dynamics, you're likely to revert to your old ways.

Psychodynamic Coaching helps clients understand the areas of one's history that may be blocking forward movement. Combining the vision-creating and behavior change orientation of coaching with a depth and psychoanalytic approach of gaining insight into conflicts and historical patterns and "how" and "what" is being repeated is key. As a fully trained and licensed New York State psychotherapist, when clients ask for coaching, I pay close attention to resistance and conflicts as well as important emotional and psychological problems such as anxiety disorders and depression among others, that will interfere with the coaching process.

Trained mental health professionals are naturals to move proactive clients to a status they so desire, because they have the training to access both clinically and holistically. Generally speaking, coaching clients are men and women who are busy, self-directed, goal and performance-oriented, high-achievers who thrive using personal accountability, honesty, feedback, perspective shifting, action steps and focused, challenging questions that will bring them extraordinary results. Partnering with a life coach who is also a psychotherapist can be supportive, enlightening and empowering, and can help clients remove unconscious blocks, navigate change and restore balance and fulfillment. Whether it’s taking control of one's health, losing weight, repairing a relationship or transitioning to a new chapter in life, coaching can provide the needed inspiration, knowledge, resolution of conflicts, accountability and results desired.

—Professional Burnout—

Professional burnout is a common presenting complaint and a reason many successful, hardworking and high-achieving individuals seek professional coaching. They frequently initially experience apathy, exhaustion or a sense of overwhelm before more serious problems surface. There are also many reasons one might experience burnout, not limited to the pressure to succeed or achieve, financial demands or a competitive personality. The important thing is to learn to identify and recognize when you need help so that you can restore well-being and create a healthier work and life balance.

What follows are some classic signs of professional burnout

  • Apathy and detachment
  • Dread and anxiety
  • Physical and emotional exhaustion
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Changes in appetite
  • Increase in substance use or abuse
  • Insomnia and sleep issues
  • Physical or somatic complains such as: palpitations, panic attacks, headaches, gastrointestinal complaints, dizziness
  • Impaired immune functioning and frequent illness
  • Impaired attention, concentration and forgetfulness
  • Relationship issues
  • Anger, tension and irritability
  • Acting out
  • Feeling less effective
  • Feeling trapped or "stuck"
  • Sadness, isolation, pessimism, hopelessness, depression
  • Lack of productivity and decreased performance

—WELLNESS COACHING + SELF-CARE—

WELLNESS COACHING

Many suffer from chronic pain, somatic symptoms and health issues that may be rooted in energetic blocks and neglected emotional suffering. We know that trauma at all levels tends to remain "stuck" in the brain, nervous system and body as unprocessed feelings, emotions and experiences. This often gets expressed as body symptoms such as anxiety, depression, disease and chronic pain. A special interest of mine is to provide individualized Wellness Coaching with the goal of helping and supporting clients to identify feelings and emotions as well as understand how the body speaks loudly in an effort to express the trauma. Clients can overcome blocks to optimal health as well as understand self-destructive habits that have become life-altering obstacles to wellbeing. I view wellbeing as an opportunity to heal from the inside out -- this means addressing the root cause of disease and suffering, and not just attending to symptoms. Working with a wellness model, together we will identify areas of need, and I will support you through the healing journey

SELF-CARE

Self-care is not being selfish or indulgent, it is the ability to care for one's own emotional needs, set boundaries with people, manage anxiety, anger, sadness and other feelings or emotions and attend to one's more complex needs. This can happen even when other people's demands or actions make this a challenge. Society as well as friends, family and employers often have expectations of us; we subjugate our own needs in an attempt to please and care for others. In the mental health field, Individuals with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, dependency issues and codependent individuals fail to care for themselves, often until it's too late and they become sick. Some examples of chronic health conditions that benefit from self-care support and advocacy are the following: Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS, arthritis, MS, Lupus, asthma, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, Lyme disease, autoimmune thyroid disorders (Hashimoto's & Graves), depression, IBS and diseases of aging as a few examples. Conventional medicine rarely addresses the root causes of many of these chronic conditions, and treats only the symptoms. A whole-body approach gives clients the choice to make radical lifestyle changes that may actually cure these common diseases or at least, greatly reduce symptoms and suffering.

Many simply aren't aware that modifications to one's habits and lifestyle can make a world of difference in terms of health and wellbeing. Yes, change takes work and the motivation to be disease-free or radically healthy must be present. Therapy and coaching can help with self-care issues by uncovering the root of the problem such self-esteem issues and other obstacles that lead to a failure to  treat one's body with care. As example, when someone is depressed, therapy can help improve one’s mood thus leading to improved self-care. Helping a depressed person create space for self-care can be a challenge, but it often improves depression. The failure to care for oneself due to wanting to please or care for others, such as in a codependent relationship, or in the case of overly demanding family members, can indicate some difficulty setting boundaries, identity and self-image.

—EMDR TREATMENT + COACHING—

Thinking in the usual way, alone, can be objectively true and powerful. But, when put in touch with what the body already knows and lives, it becomes vastly more powerful.

— CDL, Client, UK

As a coach and consultant, I am able to use EMDR to enhance the effectiveness with my coaching clients. Coaches and consultants who use EMDR do so because the process is efficient and effective and the results endure. While standard coaching techniques can be effective for some, “thinking yourself into feeling better or just changing behaviors” often fails many hopeful coaching clients and never addresses the root of the problem. EMDR, when combined with specific coaching techniques has the benefit of stimulating the client’s own brain and nervous system to function at a much higher level. As a results-oriented solution, the power team of EMDR and coaching has proven to be extremely effective in treating even the most difficult problems in a short amount of time. The lasting changes produced by the EMDR process seem to “stick” for clients in a way that standard coaching does not.

—PEAK OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE COACHING—

I’M A COMPETITIVE ATHLETE, AND I ONLY KNOW COACHING. I DIDN’T REALLY HAVE TIME TO TALK ABOUT FEELINGS. I NEEDED TO GET RID OF “THE PROBLEM” FAST, AND GET BACK IN THE GAME. EMDR TREATMENT REDUCED MY ANXIETY AND MY NEWLY DEVELOPED FEARS ABOUT WINNING. EMDR AND COACHING TOOK ME TO A PLACE THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REMEMBER ON MY OWN, I MADE THE CONNECTION AND THE LINK WAS BROKEN. I GOT BACK IN THE GAME.
— TS, Professional Athlete

—ABOUT KIM SEELBREDE, LCSW—

So why would a traditionally-trained psychotherapist coach clients in addition to providing psychotherapy? Because many prefer the coaching model! Many individuals would prefer to leave the past where it belongs and focus on goal attainment and solutions to move their lives in the direction they desire. That said, life coaching is more effective when unconscious obstacles, patterns and dynamics are uncovered so that clients have real freedom to move forward and less potential for regressing. Life coaching with a therapist can shine the light on any obstacles that may be blocking progress and leverage client strengths to build a life more aligned with one's true nature and vision. I give clients the tools and tricks as well as a map of how to reach those often elusive goals. I have a special interest in coaching and working with clients who have health challenges such as autoimmune disorders or other chronic conditions and are motivated to make the necessary lifestyle changes to experience enhanced well-being.

Kim Seelbrede uses creative, effective coaching and blends evidenced-based therapies such as CBT and a depth-focused process (working with the unconscious) to help her clients become effective and powerful in their lives. Her work involves an intelligent fusion of coaching, depth psychology, EMDR and mind-body wisdom and the creative integration of these elements to support client growth and transformation. Kimberly's past and current clients include CEOs, top athletes, entertainers, celebrities, writers, creatives, speakers, salespeople, managers, executives, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, parents, adolescents and other high-profile clients
